Day 24 June 10 Point Reyes National Seashore, Muir Woods to Pacifica.

Image
We got going early and we're out of the campground by 8. As we were leaving we saw an LTV Serenity. Too early to bug anyone to say hi. I think this campground is really nice. It is much bigger than we thought. I have a cold, yuck. Paul is fine so far. Today is a long, slow, slog on CA-1 to Point Reyes Lighthouse and National Seashore. Not sure what makes that so special but we will see. We see rolling hills, farms, a few trees. When we got to the lighthouse parking lot there is still a mile hike to the lighthouse, and since it took 4 hours to get here, we opted not to hike out there. We don't want to risk missing our Muir Woods reservation. This is pretty harsh landscape. There are flowers on the sides of the road, but no trees or habitation. A few cows here and there.   The explanation on designating this a national seashore was sort of lame. She said in the 1960s they noticed they haven't designated any national seashores so...

Day 23 June 9 to Point Arena

We got up and did our regular stuff and headed out in the wrong direction. Paul was sure we were going south, but Google maps disagreed. We finally figured out out and headed the other way. Not too much to see today, hopefully some pretty views. These flowers were near the Elks Lodge. The forest we passed thru on US-101 is lovely. Some of the trees are ginormus. We went down US-101, then CA-20 to CA-1 on recommendation from the campground and Paul thought it was pretty hairy. The other road was supposed to be worse.  We lunched in a little place in Mendocino. Split a small pizza and it was $20. The view was killer. We continued on to the campground, did laundry, and strategized the day tomorrow. It will be slow going on CA-1.

Day 22 June 8 Redwoods to Eureka

And we are off to Redwoods National Park. We are back in California. We don't have a secure place to stay. The website for the Elks Club in Eureka says they can accommodate 24 vehicles on a first-come, first-served basis. Hopefully we get one. Tomorrow night we are hoping for a KOA; we left a message on their phone. And the next 2 nights near San Francisco we paid online for a Thousand Trails place, but we aren't members, so I hope we can stay there. It was expensive ($91/night) and no hookups. We also paid for Golden Gate Bridge crossing and it's valid for a month, so whenever we get there, but it should be within the next couple days. And we bought parking for John Muir Woods. The last time we went there we couldn't even go in, because we couldn't park. We passed our agricultural inspection and then we're in California. When I got a signal, I was able to confirm our reservations for tomorrow night and try to work on the ones for the 10th and 11th, ...
