Day 24 June 10 Point Reyes National Seashore, Muir Woods to Pacifica.
We got going early and we're out of the campground by 8. As we were leaving we saw an LTV Serenity. Too early to bug anyone to say hi. I think this campground is really nice. It is much bigger than we thought. I have a cold, yuck. Paul is fine so far. Today is a long, slow, slog on CA-1 to Point Reyes Lighthouse and National Seashore. Not sure what makes that so special but we will see.
This is the dry site they initially gave us. Right next to the propane station. But they were able to move us to site 74 for tonight that has full hookup. I don't know how much the difference in price will be, but it'll be worth it. It was a very stressful day. The lady will set us up tomorrow and tell us how to get into San Francisco. Paul said he's never coming back here. At least not with the RV.
We see rolling hills, farms, a few trees.
When we got to the lighthouse parking lot there is still a mile hike to the lighthouse, and since it took 4 hours to get here, we opted not to hike out there. We don't want to risk missing our Muir Woods reservation. This is pretty harsh landscape. There are flowers on the sides of the road, but no trees or habitation. A few cows here and there.
The explanation on designating this a national seashore was sort of lame. She said in the 1960s they noticed they haven't designated any national seashores so they decided to appoint seven of them not for any specific reason.
As we headed towards the woods, the landscape changed again with hills and valleys and scrub.
We passed the Martin Griffin estuary large flat flood plane work ducks and sea lions.
We tried to stop for lunch in the last little town, but couldn't find parking big enough for us.
I really hope Muir Woods is fantastic. To impress us after the wonders we've already seen, would take a lot. It's about 80°.
Truly it was very lovely, and you had awesome parking with our $45 parking space. But it was 80 degrees and we really couldn't keep the air conditioning on for Braun. We tried opening up the roof and the windows but there's no breeze. So I went up to the kiosk, got my stamp and my sticker, and we went in for about 30 minutes total. The motorhome heated up to 85, will just have to come back another time to see it more than depth if we decide to. It really is a lovely place but so well loved. There is a wooden path that gives way to a blacktop one.
Very crowded compared to Olympic and Redwood parks. Paul was a miraculous driver with the RV. The road was so scary all the way down CA-1 but especially leaving Muir Woods, there is a severe climb out of the canyon.
Navigating to Pacifica was a fail for Mercedes. Google Maps to the rescue. Paul is doing great. It is stressful driving.
We are trying to find diesel that's not >20 percent biodiesel. Stressful, hilly, and 4 gas stations later, still no diesel Paul is happy with. Finally found diesel at Shell station. Got to our campground and found our little corner. Called the lady and she let us have an electric site for the night. We will go in the office tomorrow to straighten out the paper work. We will have to move tomorrow.
Here we are ready for take-off with front wheels off there ground.
A shower felt to good!
