Day 13 May 30 2022 Olympic Nat Park day 4 of 4
Today we're driving to the coast. It is 49 degrees and mostly clear. We had a change of thought again and decided to go to Hurricane Ridge because the webcam shows some clearing.
We saw a deer by the side of the road and she let us take her picture. What a difference the weather makes. Such a beautiful climb. We got some lovely pictures. But clouds got thicker, the views changing by the minute.
We went to Neah Bay, which is on tribal land, and we had to get a $20 permit to be on tribal land. Then to Cape Flattery. Somehow I thought the road would end in a town, but it doesn't. The road ended in a parking lot. So we ate lunch in the RV before the trail. From there we took a trail that was .75 miles long. It was muddy, rocky, and full of roots, and partway was a wooden plank walkway with spaces in between. Our poor dog you got his feet stuck in the slats sometimes and we were afraid he was going to break his leg. At the end of the trail was an island offshore that had the lighthouse. The cliffs were beautiful and there were caves. All in all, spectacular! And the most northwestern part of the continental US.
On the way back we stopped at Granny's Cafe and got chili-cheese fries, blackberry pie, and ice cream.
There were sort of friendly chickens.
When we got back we did laundry and prepped to leave tomorrow.
Braun watched from the window in the screen door. This is affectionately called "The Nose Hole". In this picture, it is complete, including "The Nose"!
