Day 16 June 2nd 2022 World Kite Museum, Lewis and Clark interpretive center/ Nat Park to Tillamook OR

Today we go back into Oregon. While still in Washington, we passed Willapa Bay National Wildlife Refuge. I'm not sure if it is just low tide or what, but it looks like a big mud flat. We looked it up on Google and it didn't say anything about big tidal surge, so we don't know.

We tried to go to the World Kite Museum. When we got there, however with our luck, they're only open Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Well, today is Thursday. It figures....

Damn the luck. Now off to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and Cape Disappointment.

We had to park and hike to the interpretive center. Supposedly it was only .6 of a mile, but it was a very steep, wet, and muddy hill to climb. This far in our trip, we've been free of mosquitoes until today.

Maybe we were just too early in the season in Washington for them to bother us in Olympic Park. But they've hatched here. The interpretive center was very detailed and pretty amazing. They detail the whole journey from start to finish, with lots of displays and a movie. It is well worth the $5 entrance.

This one is a Washington state monument. The National Park one is in Astoria, OR.

View from the top of the climb

We saw no other people on the trail going up or going down to the museum. It's sort of a cold day, I think it's like 58°.

Now on to Fort Clatsop in Astoria Oregon.

We crossed the Astoria Megler Bridge to get into Astoria. It's raining. The bridge is really long, more than 3 miles, and crosses the mouth of the Columbia River. We then crossed Young's Bay Bridge, which was also more than a mile long.

We got our stamp and sticker from the park, watched the movie, and looked at the visitor center.

Traveling down the coast lovely views.

We made it to our campground around 530p, it's not very full. Took a walk and relaxed in.
