Day 21 Oregon Caves

Leaving Eugene bound for Oregon Caves. They're is some fog in between the trees. Lovely. We saw a deer by the roadside looking at the traffic like she wanted to cross the road. We saw several more a bit farther down the road. We have no reservations for the night and it makes us a bit anxious. But we are new at this. We looked on the national campsite thing and there was no availability anywhere.

We left Eugene at 8 and thought the drive would be 2 hours, but it was 3. So much for our reservation for a cave tour.

At Oregon Caves, they were very nice and let us go on the 12:30 tour. I was expecting something like Carlsbad Caverns or Kartchner Caverns, but this was much more intense and they read a disclaimer before we went in it. There's parts that are as short as 44 inçhes. There are ladders and staircases, some without railings, and a lot of water dripping on us. It was 40 degrees in the cave. It was a mile and a half with lots of climbing. I bought a stocking cap and by the end my toes were cold with my thick socks and boots. But warmed up quickly when we came out.

The cave entrance and Jenna, our ranger guide.

The tours can have only 15 people.

Then we went to Taylor's Sausages in Cave Junction, OR, for linner (lunch and dinner combined). We were referred to the Laughing Alpacas for a campground and got a site for only $35.

Tonight we have to investigate what we are doing tomorrow.

We planned out the next three nights, have ideas and reservations, but I'll have to try to book them tomorrow.
