Day 8 May 25, 2022 to Mount St Helens and Cougar.
We started our day with a trip to Target on the way to Portland. We were told if we put a thermal curtain behind the driver's seat, it will do 2 things: keep the AC in the cab area, and quiet the road noise a lot. We shall see.
We stopped at the visitor center at Mt St Helens. It ended up being free because the movie didn't work. Bummer I wanted to see it. We picked up maps and started to plan our tomorrow.
Our neighbors are young, drinking, and loud. We went a half mile down the road to the town, if you can call it that. A small grocery and 2 restaurants is all we saw. We ate at the Cougar Bar and Grill. They were dog friendly and we had a nice lunch on the patio.
We talked about going deeper into the woods and around a back road to get back to Mt. Saint Helens, but found out SR-25 is still closed due to snow. So I guess we will be going the other way.
After cooking dog food, making dinner smoothies, and relaxing a bit, Paul put on "Last of the Mohicans". There is no cell or tv service here. It's after 9pm and still light up here.
Braun started having diarrhea. He had to go out and we were forced to stop at the side of the freeway for him.
Mt. Saint Helens in the distance.
Stopped by a grocery store to get ground turkey and rice for the doggie. I just bought the frozen turkey without checking the dates. Paul noticed, the sell by date was May 4. That is 3 weeks ago. So I took it back. They insisted it was fine, and the date was a sell or freeze by date, and they froze it. We returned it. I cooked it the instant pot, all together, so easy. We arrived at the campground in Cougar and were assigned a space.
When we came back to our campsite, the manager came over and offered us a full hookup site for no extra money, because the people in the next site had been bothering others and stumbling into others sites drunk. That was really kind and the new site is much quieter.
